21 subjects? *eeeekk*

Are kids nowadays getting smarter or the examination standard getting much lower?

20 1As and 1 2A?

Gosh...I could barely make it through 8 subjects during my SPM days!! Well, I didn't do that bad but I didn't get straight As either!

I can't imagine myself taking 21 subjects. I think I'll go bonkers. I don't think I would have a life.

Some people are just plain smart. They just concentrate in class, do a bit of homework and they're there. Me? I really, really have to work hard if I want to score.

So I guess taking 21 subjects is really out of the question for me.

Congratulations to adik Azali Azlan who was announced as the Best SPM (2007) student in Malaysia. Hats off to you!

Note: Do we go for quality of subjects taken or quantity now?

21As ... gosh! I could hardly muster up 2As. hee hee

I think the examination standard is getting lower - I am not the first one to think so. I get this feedback from some parents who have children in school now.

I don't think it is fair to compare yourself to the kids of today. Things have changed. Just like how I could not compare my time to my parents'. When I took a look at my dad's Std 6 English book, I was stumped. It was pre-uni level.

Congratulations to Azali Azlan. May he go as far as he can.

Gagak merah,
Its like a competition now. Not only having the most number of A's but also the most number of subjects....

j.t,
I shudder to think what it would be like in the future. Taking like 50 subjects?

The thing is do we really need all that many subjects? We only need the basics to enter university right?

trueblue,
Your footnote is most pertinent. I guess there must be a limit to the number of subjects taken. Extra curricular activities too must count to the development of a child.

do they ever socialize??

mamasyazmar,
Well, for his sake I hope he did.

eiseai,
I think during our time, kalau dapat Aggregate below 10 tu dah kira glamour la

Zawi,
True. Its not just about being smart in exams. We need to be active in extra-curricular activities too.

kawaii_desu,
I think the true test will be when they go for work interviews.

Hi Trueblue

Regarding your footnote, I agree with Zawi. There must be a limit to subjects taken. I strongly believe that a student should be well-rounded. If the student takes on more subjects, he/she will be bound to studying school books only.
There is an ocean of knowledge to be had out there and most of them are not in school books.

the same question was ringing in mind too...:)

I wonder was it quality back then..I agree that the younger generation should be an all rounder..It is not soo much about having good grades but it also important to be street smart. I came from a british education background and I didnt really fancy it...it is NOT all about getting good grades..Life is more than that eh.

Yeap, hats off to him too. But its the life's experience that really counts to be satisfied in your life.

I guess, my advice to him is, take some time off and go see the world. Africa, India or even Indonesia will be a good place to visit. It will really open his eyes.
